Professional ethics sits at the center of what it means to hold a survey license, yet it is often treated as background knowledge rather than an active, ongoing discipline. This course examines land surveying ethics as a substantial technical subject in its own right, one that shapes daily decisions as much as any measurement standard or field procedure. Participants will explore why the surveying profession is licensed and self regulated, what the public trust actually asks of a practicing surveyor, and how professional judgment operates in situations that a simple rule cannot fully resolve. The course then moves into the practical territory where ethical questions most often arise, including the boundaries of professional competence and standard of care, the many forms a conflict of interest can take, fair dealing with clients and fee arrangements, and the responsibilities a surveyor carries toward the broader profession and the public once work is complete.
