Course Description
Conflict is a constant in professional land surveying. Disputes may involve boundary lines, project schedules, client expectations, competing survey results, or communication between field and office teams. When unmanaged, conflict can damage relationships, delay projects, increase liability, and harm a surveyor’s professional reputation. This course presents conflict resolution as a core competency for licensed surveyors. It focuses on the practical realities of surveying, including technical disagreements, construction pressures, and the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with professional licensure. Participants will examine common sources of conflict, recognize warning signs, de-escalate tension, and apply structured communication and negotiation techniques. The course also addresses ethical advocacy, effective documentation, and determining when disputes require informal resolution or formal intervention. By the end, participants will have practical tools for managing conflict while preserving sound technical judgment, professional integrity, and productive working relationships. The course is designed for licensed Professional Land Surveyors and qualifies for one professional development hour (PDH) of continuing education credit.
